![]() What to write? What to write. What to write...? That is truly the question for blog posts when your mind and skills are being dragged in five bagazillion directions. What subject? What would someone else find interesting? What do I find interesting? An answer isn’t easy when I add that I haven’t been writing consistently since before I earned my second degree nearly three years ago. (My second degree was built around visual art so not nearly as much writing required.) Realizing this brought me to the conclusion: I don’t know where to start because I haven’t any ideas. Yeah I realize the questions I posed in the early portion of this paragraph already stated that, but I guess I just needed to see it said this way to make that solidified landing required to move into the solve-the-dilemma stage. Enter the myriad of writing prompt generators an internet search will spit out for consideration. I perused several–like a dozen–and chose generic generation options. Lots of ideas to consider. Almost too many. So I went with one of the first story prompt returns from The Story Shack. PromptWrite a 50 word story in the crime genre. It's about an extra-terrestrial and should include not enough money. Also use the sentence 'There is no time.' Bonus prompt: Your character has a world-changing idea. meager effort“There is no time. There is no time!” Ta’randa repeated over and over to herself as she knelt beside the bed and and groped blindly in the dust and shadows. “There!” She breathed a sigh and pulled out a small engraved wooden box as she sat back on her heals. Her breathing slowed, returning to normal in concert with her heartbeat. She would be free from Gor'tems clutches. “What was that?” She held her breath and her pulse quickened once more. Were they coming up the stairs? She strained her ears to hear. No. No. It was only her imagination. She had time. Her lungs still refused to let her breath go, though, as she glanced at the torn notice on the floor by the door. She shook her head and turned her attention to the box in her hands. Flipping the locking mechanism with her thumb, she lifted the lid. Nothing. There was nothing in her savings. Not a copper not a half-copper. Not even a dust bunny. Where had it all gone? Bang! Bang! The sound of a Br’Egeon guards pounding on Ta’randa’s door sent a flood of dread rippling through her body. "There is no time." ConclusionsUgh. That is nearly three times as long as the prompt suggested. But what’s cool? It is nearly three times as long as the prompt suggested. Booyah! Words on paper (or screen). Finally.
